Marimekko Today and in the past

Over 50 year Marimekko please people all over the world with its beautiful and bright products. The company was founded in 1951 year by Armi and Viljo Ratia in Finland. Their graphic designs was applied to textile and lately they designed and sold a line of simple dresses using their fabric. This was the beginning of Marimekko.

Two incredible talented designers (Vuokko Nurmesniemi and Maija Isola) set the tone for Marimekko. Isola designed the iconic Unikko (poppy) print pattern in 1964 and it is popular now. For example Unikko Shower Curtains can make your bathroom bright and colorful.

Nurmesniemi designed the simply striped red and white Jokapoika shirt in 1956. Only imagine! Several generations of people enjoy it!

The company became popular in America in 1990s after the hit series Sex and the City when one of the main characters, sex-and-relationship columnist Carrie Bradshaw, wore a Marimekko bikini on the season 2 and later on, a Marimekko dress.
